How much does a website cost in Canada for small business? (2026 price guide)

"How much does a website cost in Canada?" is the first question almost every small-business owner asks us, and the hardest to get a straight answer to anywhere else. Most designers won't name a price until they've sized you up. We publish ours, and below we lay out the real 2026 Canadian market ranges so you can budget with confidence.

The short answer: 2026 market price ranges

For most Canadian small businesses, a professional website runs about CAD 2,500 to CAD 8,000 as a one-time build, and roughly 60% of projects land between CAD 1,500 and CAD 4,000. A well-built 5 to 7 page informational site typically costs CAD 2,500 to CAD 5,500. Online stores and custom builds sit higher.

  • DIY website builders (Wix, Squarespace, Shopify): about CAD 25 to 60 per month, plus a lot of your own time.
  • Freelancers and boutique studios: roughly CAD 600 to 3,000 for a small site.
  • Small and mid-market studios: about CAD 5,000 to 15,000 for a full business site.
  • Full-service agencies: CAD 20,000 to 80,000+ for large, custom projects.
  • E-commerce and online stores: about CAD 3,000 to 15,000+ to build, with higher ongoing costs.

Where do we sit? Tekk Smart publishes fixed prices, builds from CAD 1,200 and care plans from CAD 50 per month, deliberately at the accessible end of the market, without the templated corners that make cheap sites so expensive later.

Do not forget the ongoing costs

A website is not only an upfront cost. Plan for the running costs too. Most small-business sites cost roughly CAD 75 to 300 per month to host, secure and maintain (about CAD 900 to 3,600 a year):

  • Domain name: about CAD 10 to 50 per year.
  • SSL certificate: often free, or up to CAD 60 per year.
  • Hosting: from a few dollars up to CAD 300+ per month depending on traffic.
  • Care and maintenance (updates, backups, security, small changes): CAD 75 to 300 per month.
  • Optional add-ons, copywriting, professional photography, Google Business Profile setup: CAD 500 to 2,000.

What actually changes the price of a website

Two websites can look similar and cost very differently. Price is driven by scope and outcome, not page count alone:

  • Number of pages and how much custom design each needs.
  • Features: lead capture forms, click-to-call, Interac and card payments, booking or enrolment, a blog, a store.
  • Custom build vs. WordPress, we recommend what fits you, not what is easiest for us.
  • Content: whether copy, photos and product data are ready or need creating.
  • SEO depth and whether you need ongoing marketing after launch.

Why the cheapest website is usually the most expensive

You can find someone to build "a website" for a few hundred dollars. The problem is what you get: a slow, templated page that no customer ever finds, that breaks in a few months, with no one to call. You pay again to fix it, then again to rebuild it properly. The cheapest quote almost always becomes the most expensive line in your budget.

A cheap site that brings you no customers is the most expensive thing you can buy.

The right question is not "what's the cheapest?" It's "what will this site earn me, and who's still here in year three when it matters?"

How to budget so your website pays for itself

  • Start from the outcome: more bookings, leads, calls or jobs, not "a website".
  • Pick the tier that matches where your business is now; you can grow into the next one.
  • Budget for a care plan so the asset keeps earning instead of decaying.
  • Ask for published prices and a fixed quote. If a designer will not name a price, that is your answer.
